Join Creative Developer, Charles Coates, in his professional artist studio to create relief prints using the linocut process. These intimate two-part studio sessions have a six seat limit, ensuring that each participant receives all coaching they need, along with plenty of time on the etching press. Beginners and experienced artists welcome.
Join artist Charles Coates at the Foster and create studies of artist-explorer Tony Foster’s bright watercolor paintings. You’ll learn digital hacks for your painting style, from using the Apple Pencil (or your fingers) like traditional brushes to turning a simple sketch into a complete work. Participants will learn how to apply elements of art such as line, shape, texture, and color to digital painting.
Through this workshop, Charles will host an art-making activity using Gamble Garden’s flora as inspiration for making prints. Participants begin with a tour through the gardens as Charles instructs how to draw from observations. Participants will then learn how to transform their drawings into stamps for monotype-printmaking. Together, we’ll create a series of unique images that share repetitious shapes, along with their own unique qualities.
